The City of Kingston
The Kingston landscape is breathtaking. It is located at the base of the Catskill Mountains where three valleys meet, situated on the Hudson River between the Rondout and Esopus Creeks.
In addition to it's natural beauty, Kingston has a rich history and is a vibrant cultural center. Kingston is New York State's first capital where its government was founded and its constitution drafted. The historic Stockade District speaks to this past with its stone houses and historic sites. The city's cultural hotspots include art galleries, theatrical venues such as the Ulster Performing Arts Center, and the scenic Rondout Waterfront, which is full of shops and restaurants.
The city also showcases a mixture of interesting architectural styles from historic 19th century American Federal buildings to Dutch and Greek revival. Kingston has the character and charm of a small town while maintaining the diversity of a large city. The city's people represent a mix of Dutch, English, Irish, German, and African-American cultures.
